Douglas Hofman

Hofmann was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1945. At the age of 25 he won “Best Painting in the Traditional Manner in a competition sponsored by the Baltimore Museum of Art. His work graced the pages of the New York Times, New York Post, Forbes magazine and most recently the cover of Dance Magazine. In 1988 he was awarded a Certificate of Merit for his painting The Secret by the Salamagundi Club.

After many successful shows at the Jack Gallery in New York’s Soho district, Hofmann has turned his attention back to Europe where he will soon be having a major retrospective at England’s prestigious Halycon Gallery.

Hofmann’s works have been exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, Delaware Art Museum, National Academy of Design and the Governor’s Mansion in Annapolis, Maryland.

His critical success, despite his limited production, belies the essence of Hofmann’s unspoken credo, Be true to the painting, there are no shortcuts.
