Jeannette DeBonne

The richly textured abstract paintings of Jeannette Debonne reflect the vision of an artist whose involvement with man’s primal origins, evolutionary past and ancient myths has developed an imagery at once sensuously primitive and startlingly sophisticated. Granular roughness, glyph-like incising, and spontaneous gestural drawing all serve to draw the viewer into a visual world where color plays the role of an atmospheric mist and charcoal and graphite lines become a new form of writing, spewing forth a visual story, a myth of the artist’s own device.

Debonne is a California native. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in painting, having studied under William Brice, John Paul Jones and Jan Stussy. Her work has been widely exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is included in notable corporate and public collections.

"I believe that creating sensuous, beautiful surfaces is not only not passe, but a legitimate and desirable pursuit. I embrace the aesthetic quest with great passion. I have but two words of advice to anyone asking how my paintings should be understood: Look. Feel."
