Lucy Gerhart Mazzaferro was born in Jackson, Mississippi and began studying oil painting at age eight. After raising her children, Lucy began to paint seriously in 1995. She has since been selected as one of the top fifty still life artists in the country.

Using a direct painting technique called "alla prima", Lucy captures the vibrant and luscious colors of her still life subjects. When viewing one of Lucy’s paintings, you can almost see the sunlight shining through the window, feel the breeze blowing through the room and smell the fruit and flowers in front of you.

She often spends as much time on the composition of a painting as she does on the actual painting process. "I keep arranging the objects and the light until I get the right feeling about the subject. I like to see light travel and bounce from left to right creating energy and excitement in the scene. I feel that painting is my way of seeing and understanding the beauty of the world around me."
